WINDSURFING TUITION
The Windsurfing teaching and clinic programmes in Lanzarote have been developed according to the VDWS (International School Association for Watersports) standards and guidelines. The lessons provide a proven step-by-step approach to learn windsurfing safely and quickly. The instructors are all VDWS (Internationaler Schulverband für Wassersport) qualified.
The groups are not larger then three persons and no more then 8 people provided with rental at any one one time. This means a larger the windsurfing pool allowing you the opportunity to choose the optimal board or sail for your level and for the wind conditions.
FULL BEGINNER COURSE
NEWBIES & BEGINNERS WINDSURFING COURSE
The course is designed to help you take your first steps into a new sport and hopefully fuel an addiction of a lifetime. You will receive all the theory and practice necessary to get you up and sailing on your own. You will go from being a beginner to and intermedaite windsurfer during this course.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to windsurfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.
DURATION
5 Days - 7.5 hours (5 x 1.5 hour sessions)
Note: If you want more tuition time you can opt for 10 x 1.5 hours of tuition. That's a total of 15 hours spread over 5 days (3 hours per day).
GOAL
In no time at all you will be on the water sailing alongside your instructor in the safety of the bay. You will quickly learn correct sailing stance, grip, board control and basic steering. You will learn how to tack and how to stay upwind.

WHAT NOW?
Once you've completed this course you can go on to the intermediate course described below or (depending on the conditions and your skill level) hire equipment.
CHILDRENS COURSE
NEWBIES & BEGINNERS WINDSURFING COURSE
A fun and safe introduction to windsurfing especially for kids. The training methods and all the equipment has been specially developed for children.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
Well, basically you need to be a kid ;-). All children under 16 qualify and this course is aimed at those who want an introduction to windsurfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience required but you need to be able to swim.
DURATION
5 Days - 7.5 hours (5 x 1.5 hour sessions)
GOAL
In no time at all you will be on the water sailing alongside your instructor in the safety of the lagoon. You will quickly learn correct sailing stance, grip, board control and basic steering. We will teach you how to tack and how to stay upwind.

ADVANCED BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE WINDSURFING COURSE
The course is designed to help you achieve your next personal level and covers some of the trickier aspects of windsurfing that require professional coaching.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who have done some sailing in the past and need a recap of the basics or those who have completed a beginner course and want to take the next step. You need to understand and be able to demonstrate board control, basic steering, tacking and upwind sailing.
DURATION
4 Days - 6 hours (4 x 1.5 hour sessions)
Note: If you want more tuition time you can opt for 8 x 1.5 hours of tuition. That's a total of 12 hours spread over 4 days (3 hours per day).
GOAL
The aim here is to teach you the fast tack, jibe, the secret to a successful beachstart and to give you an introduction to the harness.

Water start - ADVANCED CLINIC
After you are proficient in your basic skills, it's time to learn to waterstart!
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who already have basic windsurfing skills and who want to progress to their next personal level.
GOAL
You will learn the rigging, tuning, and sail handling skills necessary to safely use performance gear in high winds. On the water, our instructors will introduce you to the sail flying techniques needed to beachstart and waterstart. Waterstarting is the essential shortboard skill that gives you the freedom to sail at at wide range of spots. The experienced instructors will help you ahcieve success with this complex skill.

Gybe/Jibe - ADVANCED CLINIC
Learning to jibe a short board will keep you sailing instead of swimming. Jibing a small board requires board speed and sailor quickness.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who have done around 30 hours windsurfing, and now need to get to the next level.
GOAL
To give you a clear understanding of how the jibe should work and help you to adjust to different situations and correct your mistakes. We can also work on learning to turn on the swells. Jibing on swells can be easier than jibing on flat water since you can slide down the face of the swell to maintain your board speed through the turn.

Planing on a shortboard - ADVANCED CLINIC
Learn how to get some speed out of your board by planing.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who already have basic windsurfing skills and who want to progress to the next level.
GOAL
This is where harness and footstrap techniques, combined with improved stance will get the board planing and give you the exhilaration of speed. Faster tacking and more dynamic gybes. Beachstarting in a variety of conditions. Harness and line adjustment, using the training straps and planing stance.
DURATION

Windsurfing through a shorebreak - ADVANCED CLINIC
Self explanatory I suppose. Learn to get out beyond the the shorebreak and start catching waves.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
This course is aimed at those who already have advanced windsurfing skills.
GOAL
To be a competant wave sailor you will need to be able to get in and out through shore break. This course is aimed at helping you master this skill and hopefully help you on your way to becoming a wave head.

PRIVATE WINDSURFING LESSONS - INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED
You and your windsurfing instructor will determine the lesson-content based on your current abilities and your personal sailing goals. Private windsurfing sessions can be booked per hour or per 2 hours, during which an expert coach will teach you how to have more fun out on the water.
ENTRY REQUIREMENT
These lessons are aimed at those who already have basic windsurfing skills and who want to progress to the next level.
DURATION
1 or 2 Hours
KEY SKILLS
As mentioned above this depends on your current abilities and your personal sailing goals. However 1 on 1 lessons can cover anything and everything from the Water start, Fast tack and Power Gybe to Jumping, wave riding and freestyle moves.
GOAL
To help you to adjust to different situations and correct your mistakes. To help you attain your personal windsurfing goals and ultimately to have more fun out on the water.

The Windsurfing academy owner is a VDWS instructor and he has trained all the instructors here. The instructors have years of experience as windsurfers & kitesurf instructors and are accustomed to coaching at different levels. They have all the necessary skills & experience to help newbies & beginners to progress to a level where they can become independant windsurfers. The instructors are multi-lingual & speak English, French, German, Spanish and more...

WINDSURFING SAFETY
Your safety is our prime concern, the Lanzarote Windsurf Center offer a low student-to-teacher ratio and the have a rescue vehicle (Zodiac) at their disposal at all times. On the water we have our own bay-watch-security-system the center has the latest safety systems as well as helmets and life vests.
