windsurfing HOLIDAYS IN LANZAROTE
windsurfing HAZARDS LANZAROTE
THE SPOTS
Lanzarote has great windsurfing spots but you do need to know your ability and limitations. Jameos del Agua is great for more advanced riders wanting to head into the waves, but some spots on the island are either too small or too dangerous for windsurfing. There are a few places we can suggest without putting yourself in danger. please see our Guide to Lanzarote windsurfing Spots. We don't recommend windsurfing anywhere else.
For beginner to intermediate windsurfers we recommend you either join our Learn-2-windsurf course or follow an Intermediate windsurfing clinic with professional VDWS instructors who can safely get you up and riding or take your windsurfing to your next personal level.
THE SUN
The sun on Lanzarote will burn you to a crisp in a couple of hours, this is a fact. The sun here is harsher than in the rest of Europe, basically you're just across the water from the Sahara Desert! So take proper precautions when going out in the sun especially when you are in the water. 5 basic things to remember:
1. Whenever possible wear a hat/baseball cap.
2. Sun block/sunscreen are essential, get a SPF 45 for your face and arms.
3. Find some shade during the middle of the day (Siesta)
4. Wear polarized sun glasses.
5. Try and 'cover up' when not in the water.
