The Sotavento Pro Center is the perfect spot for WINDSURFers
The Pro Center is located on a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal-clear turquoise water for miles around. The center also lies directly in the path of the Sotavento Wind Funnel: strong and constant wind. The spot is equally suitable for beginners and advanced windsurfers. In the large, shallow lagoon beginners and experienced windsurfers can improve in super-flat water conditions, while wave heads can jump and ride in the three to six foot waves on the sand bars in front of the lagoon. To enable you to maximize the conditions while on your windsurfing holiday, the Windsurfing Pro Center stock the top F2 and JP windsurfing boards and Neil Pryde sails.
Records
In 2001 Sebastien Cattelan set a new hang time world record here, with an 8,87 second long jump. In 2004 Manu Taub succeeded in kiting a new Kite Speed World record with 40,58 knots (75,15 km/h).
The Pro Center Lifeguard System
A look-out keeps a constant watch over the beach and water during the Pro Center windsurfing hours (from 10 am to 7 pm in spring and summer and from 10 am to 5 pm in autumn and winter). Whenever a windsurfer needs help the lifeguard on watch on the tower informs the beach lifeguard using a mobile phone.
The beach lifeguard conducts the rescue from the rescueboat, with coordination from the lifeguard on watch. In order to maintain full concentration the lifeguard on watch is changed every two hours, so his mind is always fresh. A beach assistant is right beside the guests on the shoreline to help and give tips.
The rescue service is free of charge. However if you need to be rescued often or because you do not have an IKO/VDWS level 3 certification (kiteboarding) or no knowledge of waterstart (windsurfing), we reserve the right to charge 30€ per retrieval.
