THE SURF
Cantabria has incredible surf. Spots start working in 1ft swells and some spots can hold 20ft swells! There is always a ridable wave somewhere and because the coast is so jagged the breaks work in different swell and wind directions. Cantabria has it all from gentle beach breaks with sandy bottom to spitting, gnarly reefs, some short, hoolow and powerful and others, like the wave at Fortaleza, have walls that seem to peel forever.

There are vey few rocks and there are always decent sandbanks close to the shore, which means that beginners never have to venture deep out into the ocean to catch waves.

WHO WILL IT APPEAL TO?
Cantabria is a surfing destination like no other and with a direct ferry link from the UK and loads of cheap flights into Santander and Bilbao it's an excellent destination for Europeans wanting to escape the winter chill.
Experienced surfers will find a wide range of challenging waves from October to April. However this coast is a swell magnet and picks up regular swells from September each year and many times the season will run until the end of June.
During the 'wave season' ond over weekends things get fairly crowded at the 'hot spots' but mid week and at the lesser surfed breaks crowds are thin and the vibe is friendly.
People new to surfing and beginners are not restricted to the wave season and Cantabria will deliver suitable surf for newbies and beginnersis all year round.
