LEARN-2-SURF IN EL PALMAR & CONIL - SURF SPOTS
Andalucía's coastline is dominated by huge tracks of dune-backed beach and rocky points. The point breaks around Cabo de Trafalgar and Cabo Garcia are excellent when working and the southern coast down to Tarifa has numerous good beachbreaks.
There are loads of uncrowded surf spoats and plenty of waves to be discovered. Even the spots around Cádiz and Roche are fairly uncrowded except on weekends. The vibe in the water is relaxed and friendly and the local surfers are generally friendly towards travelling surfers. We have never had any problems. Please remember to treat locals with respect and to have a good, friendly attitude in the water.

Playa Del Palmar
El Palmar is a popular spot that has epic hollow lefts and rights breaking over the sandbanks. The spot works through all tides but is probably at its best between low and mid. This beachbreak works in most swells from small to big and is offshore in easterly or northeasterly winds. El Palmar can get busy over weekends and holidays.

Cabo Roche
This is a super-consistent beachbreak providing powerful high quality lefts and rights. Again, this spot works in all swell conditions and is best from low to mid tide. There is a bit of localism here during peak times, but show some respect, be friendly and you should have no problem. Roche is offshore in easterlies.

El Coto
Aka 'The Reserve', this rocky point produces a long walling right hander and is a quality wave. Works best from mid to high tide in westerly/southwesterly swells with northeasterly winds. The wave breaks at the mouth of the Río Guadalquivir and borders the Parque Nacional Coto Doñana. Can get busy but vibe is chilled.

Chipiona to Rota - Various breaks
These beaches lie north of Cádiz on a stretch of coast between Chipiona and Rota. There are various wave here working in all swell sizes and some are quality breaks, most are offshore in easterly/northeasterly winds:
Playa de Regla sandy bottomed urban break. Works with westerly/southwesterly swells and easterly/northeasterly winds
Playa de Tres Piedras (aka 3 stones) Rocky beachbreak with lefts & rights. Best surfed at mid to high tide with westerly/southwesterly swells and easterly/northeasterly winds
Cien metros (aka 100 meters) A fast and powerful right-hander breaking between mid and high tide.
Playa de la Ballena works best on mid to high tide.

Cádiz breaks
A brief description of the waves in and around Cádiz. Cádiz is situated at the end of a peninsula which provides a massive stretch of sandy beaches and beachbreaks. Again these spots work in just about all swell sizes and are offshore in easterly winds:
La Playita The main town beach works best at low to mid tide.
Las Caracolos just south of the city, works best on mid to high tide.
La Cabañita on Playa Victoria is a hollow right-hander working at high tide.
Torregorda sandy beachbreak.
Campo Soto sandbar with hollow but short lefts and rights. Works on all tides

Playa de la Barrosa
La Barrosa needs bigger swells to start working and works best at low to mid tide with offshore northeasterly winds. This is a great spot to escape the crowds and get some peaks all to yourself.

Playa de los Caños de Meca
This is a slab-style reef break that works best at low to mis tide, It's a fast and tubey wave that can get busy when it's on. Will work in most swell sizes.

Playa de Hierbabuena
This is a right-hand point break that only really works in big swells. However. when it's working it produces an excellent long wall that is just begging to be ripped to shreds. Offshore in Northerly/nortwesterly winds.

Barbate
On of Andalucías most famous waves. This is a break with a Mundaka-like set up, long hollow walls peel along the sandbank created by the rivermouth. As a regional gem, obviously there are some localism issues when it's crowded. The wave needs a medium to big swell and works through all the tides. Offshore in northeasterly winds.
