Recommended boards and suits

Boards Cape Town: has it all, big stuff for the chargers and small gentle waves for beginners. You can bring your shortboards and big wave gun's up to  9'4" depending on your ability. Mini mals and longboards can also be surfed at loads of the breaks in and around Cape Town.

Boards West Coast: Shortboards and bigger wave boards up to a 7'0" will be perfect for the waves around the west coast. Mini mals and longboards will be fine at Elands Bay point and a few beaches around Lamberts Bay.

Boards Cape Town to J-Bay: Shortboards and up to a 7'0" will be perfect for intermediates. Mini mals can also be surfed at most of the breaks. Longboards can be ridden at some of the breaks (they are not to welcome out at Supers though), long boarding will be limited to the beach breaks and slower breaking point breaks on this type of trip.

Wetsuits Cape Town and West coast: 4'3" mm suits are required all year round. The summer months have the coldest water on the Atlantic side averaging around 12 degress Celcius. During winter months the water temp on both sides averages around 17 degrees Celcius or even a bit cooler. A hood and boots will definitely come in handy during the summer months, especially if you plan to surf the Atlantic coast.

Tip: Chances are, you will be surfing at least twice each day. So if you have two cold water wetsuits, bring them both. The water is cold and you get tired of putting on your wet, cold wetsuit every morning and afternoon.
