THE SURF
The largest concentration of breaks is on the west side of the Cape Peninsula facing the Atlantic Ocean. The remainder line the eastern coast line, which faces the Indian Ocean. One of the most notable things about surfing in and around a Peninsula, is that you will almost always find some sort of a wave to surf. There are so many different spots on all sides of the coast, that no matter what the wind direction, it will be blowing off-shore somewhere.
WINTER
The most consistent surf is to be found in the winter months, from May through to August, mainly due to the cold fronts that hit the Cape coast, bringing solid six to eight-foot swells. In these conditions all the point breaks along the coast will be firing.
SUMMER
In summer the swell tends to be a bit smaller with fun surf available at the many beach breaks.
WHY THE WESTERN CAPE?
One of the big attractions of surfing in the Western Cape is the incredible diversity of the waves and surfing locations. The landscape, water temperature and surf conditions change drastically as you drive around the Western Cape. The popular breaks get crowded when the surf is good, but there are literally dozens of uncrowded quality waves to be found with a little exploration.
