Spend your holidays learning to surf in Vulamanzi, one of South Africas many fine surf spots. Together with our partners in South Africa, ZOCO have helped create a unique surf camp on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
Flexibility is the key, if you can already surf our knowledgeable guides will always make a huge effort to get you to the best waves on the day. If you're a newbie or beginner you will get professional surfing tuition at a suitable beach break. Each day your instructor will pick you up at you your accommodation and take you surfing at a break that suits your surfing ability. This means that our Vulamanzi/Kelso Surf Camps are suited for all levels of surfers from complete beginners to reef gods.
If the surf is completely flat your guide will suggest alternative outdoor activities for you to enjoy.
Hugh Thompson (head surf coach): Professional surfer, famous surfboard shaper and a fully qualified surf instructor. Hugh's phenomenal achievements include twelve national titles and fifteen provincial titles making him one of the greatest surfers in South African longboarding history. He has also captained the KwaZulu-Natal team at least ten times over the years and represented South Africa three times at the Oxbow World Longboard Championships.
If you're travelling without a board, why not get a board shaped by Hugh to suit your personal requirements? He has been shaping boards for over 30 years and is well known all over the world. If you order you Board(s) 2 weeks before arrival, you could have a brand new board waiting for you on arrival. Boards delivered complete with wax, leash and bag.
Our tour/surf guides are Theta registered (Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Education & Training Authority) and possess level one first aid and professional driving permits.

SURF COURSE OUTLINE for Beginners
The main aim of the Beginners Surf Course is get participants up and riding waves in a safe and fun environment. The surf course aimed at this level covers the Surf Essentials outlined below. At the end of the course each partipipant should have experienced the rush of riding a green/broken wave safely to the shore.
Beach safety, currents/rip tides, Weather and Wave formation
Equipment - How to handle it in the water
Proning, stalling and accelerating board
Paddling techniques
Popup/stance refinement
Catching broken waves
Take-off (straight)
Safe Wipe-out technique

Course Outline For Intermediates
The main aim of a the Intermediates Surf Course is to help you to correct any bad habits developed over time, perfect your style and learn new surfing techniques/manouveres.
Our instructors can help you learn how to duck-dive correctly so you can easily get outback, you can then learn about your position in the line-up, timing/wave selection and take-off. You can then work on improving your bottom turns and learn how to cut-back and use the pocket/power of the wave to increase you rides. Progression = More waves = Progression!
For those of you who want to take your surfing to the next level you can learn how to pull off some of the more radical manouveres such as floaters, re-entries, and prepare yourself for what most surfers consider the ultimate surfing experience how to stall and prepare yourself to get barrelled!
