OTHER KICKS - WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE NOT SURFING
When the surf is cooking you can ride 4 to 6ft waves off Vulamanzi point and you may never do anything else. However nature is unpredictable and you may have a flat spell, you may simply feel 'Surfed out' or your partner/kids are hinting braodly that they'd like to see more than your surfing ;-). Luckily there are loads of things to do and see in the area we mention just a couple below.
Enjoy an early morning or sunset ride along the beach with Khotso Horse trails, fly fish from the well known "pinkie rock", go diving for crayfish or snorkel in amongst the rocks.
Visit the nearby Crocodile Farm and see not only crocodiles, but a wide variety of birds and snakes. Zulu Cultural Villages are also nearby where you can check out locally made products, or visit the weekend flea markets for an eclectic mix of homemade and traditional crafts.
SCOTTBURGH
The quaint village of Scottburgh is nestled alongside kilometers of shoreline, golden beaches, indigenous forests and rolling hills is only 10 minutes away and has shopping malls, cinemas and restaurants. There are water slides on Scottburghs Main Beach as well as mini golf.
Scottburgh Golf Club
This undulating course has a most attractive setting with the sight and sound of the Indian ocean always in the background. Comparatively short at 5323m, it boasts two par 5's and five par 3 holes. It has the narrowest of fairways with out of bounds on the right and a coastal forest on the left to contend with.
UMZINTO
Culture vultures should visit the historic town of uMzinto which is a historical trading post overlooking the rolling hills above Scottburgh. A place where the time has stood still and trading never ceased.
VERNON CROOKS NATURE RESERVE
Only 10 min's drive out of uMzinto and well worth seeing if you're in the area. Besides the many indigenous birds attracted to the two dams you will also find Eland, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest and Bushbuck. Gate time 6am to 6pm.
Active Adventures
For those with a taste for adventure there are plenty of active excursions, day trips or even courses you can follow while staying at Vulamanzi.
SCUBA DIVING
The World Famous Aliwal Shoal (voted one of the top ten dive sites in the World) was formed thousands of years ago from fossilized sand dunes during the times when sea levels were much lower than they are today.
The Aghulas Current which runs south along the east coast of Africa brings with it warm water and a huge diversity of tropical sea life. Dive with Ragged Tooth Sharks and Manta Rays, Dolphins and Whale Sharks.
