THE SURF

Portugals Porto e Norte region has a wide range of waves breaking in a variety of different conditions and as such is a year round destination. This region has enormous untapped surf potential with unspoilt beaches and hardly any crowds.

CORTEGAÇA

Cortegaça is a quiet little town to the south of Esphino. A series of jetties hold the sand bars in place and produce some good waves including a nice left hander near the town square. The beach faces northwest which means it picks up loads of swell and the crowds are minimal. Offshore winds are from the east

PORTO NORTH & SOUTH

The entire coast around Porto, especially to the south, has numerous surf spots, empty line ups and waves suitable for surfers of all abilities. The area to the north of Porto also called the 'Costa Verde' or Green coast is virtually unchartered as far as surfing is concerned, there are countless rivermouths and empty beaches along this coast. South of Porto the sandy unspoilt beaches continue into what is known as the 'Costa prata' Silver coast and this continues down to Figueira da Foz. The right hand point break of Figueira da Foz steals most of the limelight but, as any local surfer will tell you, this area is packed with high quality waves and very consistent swell.

WHY PORTUGAL'S PORTO E NORTE REGION?

One of the big attractions of surfing in this region is the diversity of the waves, the beautiful unspoilt beaches, empty lineups, surf spots that work under various conditions and consistent swells. While Figueira da Foz has drawn most of the surfing media attention there are literally dozens of uncrowded quality waves to be found with a little exploration. PORTO TO BORDEIRA SURFARIS & CAMP

If you're looking for a full on surf adventure the Porto to Bordeira Surfari is road trip you shouldn't miss. Explore the west coast of Portugal from Porto in the North to Lagos (Bordeira) in the south. Approximately 850 kms of coastline!
