SURFING HOLIDAYS IN MEXICO, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR
LORETO 'THE POINT' SURFARI - SURF GUIDES & SURF INSTRUCTORS
Important note:
To respect the wishes of the locals and to ensure that this surf spot does not suffer from over-exposure, we will not reveal the name or location of the Surf Camp online or in any advertising. We will keep numbers as low as possible and ask you please to keep the exact location to yourself. We will simply refer to this surfing paradise as 'The Point'.
The surf at 'The Point' is epic. Experienced surfers will not believe their eyes as they watch five waves breaking at once, peeling down the point. The waves in front of the camp are more suitable for longboarding until the swell reaches head high, then the fish and shortboards come out. A short walk from camp there are a variety of other fast and punchy right points which attract more swell and are more suited for shortboards.

Perhaps the most attractive aspect of 'The Point' is that the predominant winds blow offshore all day! The point is located on the west coast of Baja and actually faces east, with the waves wrapping in at 180 degrees. The afternoon onshore winds, which turn other Baja spots into a wind-whipped mess, groom the reeling waves here. Swells during summer are generally between waist high to a few feet overhead. This is no problem for the beginners since they can simply surf further inside the point where the swells must wrap further around, decreasing in size and power, and reel gently into the bay.

The Waves
Whether you know how to surf or are just learning, you wont be able to wipe the smile off your face!
Experienced surfers will enjoy the handful of right points in the area, all within walking distance. The first sand-bottom point is located 5 minutes walk to the north. This is the most sheltered wave, and is about 2 feet when the swell is 6 feet. This is a longboard only wave, and usually no one surfs it. Perfect for beginners! Rides over a minute long when theres swell.
Wind blows offshore all day here.
The second point is the longest most perfect wave you'll ever see. Its a long racy wall, providing rides up to 2 minutes long, even when its only knee high! The take-off spot is hollow and close to the rocks
experienced surfers only. The rest of the wave peels along perfectly for hundreds of yards over a sandy bottom. From ankle to waist high its a longboard wave and when it gets any bigger than that, you can ride anything out there. This wave has to be seen to be believed. Get ready for aching legs
Wind blows offshore all day here.
To the south are points three to seven, with increasingly larger more powerful waves breaking over a combination of rocky and sandy bottoms. These waves are punchy, long and more suited for shortboards or fish.
Wind is usually calm in the morning and sideshore in the afternoon.

Beginner Surfers might find the descriptions above like reading a foreign language
not for long! Basically what this means is that there are perfect waves for learning to surf i.e. long and gentle waves that break over a sandy bottom. Because of the length of the waves you can always find a section that is uncrowded. Because of the incredible length of the wave you will get more practice actually riding a wave
up to ten times more! If you really want to learn to surf, this is the place.
The Beginner Surfing Package includes surf equipment and 4 hours of surf instruction per day, with a ratio of 1 instructor to 4 students.
WHEN TO COME
As with any surf trip, we cannot guarantee waves, but from June through September is prime south swell season. You can expect waves ranging from knee high to a few feet overhead, depending on the swell and which point you are surfing. The amazing thing is that even at knee high, waves are perfect and can be ridden for hundreds of yards on a longboard. There are always a supply of quality foam longboards which can be used if the swell is small and you just want to get out there and have some fun.
