SURFING HOLIDAYS IN MEXICO, BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR
BAJA CALIFORNIA SURF CAMPS & SURFARIS
Look at a map of the Pacific Ocean and you will see that the Peninsula of Baja California is a unique piece of geography. Baja juts out into the Pacific and is exposed to storm generated swells that can come from the North Pacific in our winter and the South Pacific in their winter. The swell window for the Cape Region of Baja extends from approximately 300 degrees (Northwest) in winter all the way around the compass through South to approximately 130 degrees (Southeast) in summer.
In Baja you can expect days in the 80° F (26° C) 90° F (32° C) range with nights dropping down to about 65° F (18° C). At the secret spot which we will simply refer to as 'The point' there is a warm offshore wind that blows through the middle of the day and usually calms down in the evening.
There is no shortage of sunshine in Mexico so bring a strong sunscreen to avoid sunburn. The water temperature will be about 75° F (24° C), which means that wetsuits are generally not necessary. However, the wind blows during the middle of the day, so if you get cold easily you may want to bring a springsuitor a long sleeve neoprene shirt to wear while surfing.
