SURFING HOLIDAYS IN FRANCE (EUROPE)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR FRANCE

For the vast majority of foreign nationals travelling to France on holiday, entry is straightforward and hassle-free.

PASSPORTS VISAS & ENTRY PERMITS

If you are a citizen of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein: all you need is your Identification Card, or a valid passport. Minors travelling with their ID card must have a document that shows parental authorisation.

Thanks to the 'Schengen agreement' which is part of EU law, there are no longer any frontier controls at the borders between more than half the EU countries. The full Schengen members are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden (but not Ireland and the United Kingdom) plus Iceland and Norway (which are not EU members).

More information on the free movement of people within the EU can be found here: http://europa.eu/

Entry requirements for Americans, Canadians, Australians & New Zealanders & Irish nationals:
Must have a valid passport. A visa is not required for a stay of up to three months.

Entry requirements for UK:
Must have a valid passport. A visa is not required for a stay of up to three months for travellers holding a passport endorsed British Citizen or British Overseas Territories Citizen. In all other cases, a visa is required.

Entry requirements for South Africans:
South Africans must have a valid passport and a Schengen visa for travel to France.

All visitors are advised to hold a return or onward ticket and proof of financial means.

Since conditions may vary, we recommend you contact your local French Consulate or Embassy or check with French foreign affairs:
French ministry of foreign affairs

IMMUNIZATION & VACCINES

You need no vaccines to travel to France. Like everywhere else in the world, you are advised to get your anti-tetanus shots if you will be outdoors, or in rural areas. If as an exceptional measure, International Sanitary Regulations demanded any specific vaccinations, you may need to go through a medical check up, or show a medical certificate.

CUSTOMS, TAXES & DUTY

What You Can Bring Into France: Customs restrictions for visitors entering France differ for citizens of European Union (E.U.) and non-E.U. countries. Non-E.U. nationals can bring in duty-free 200 cigarettes, 100 cigarillos, 50 cigars, or 250 grams of smoking tobacco. This amount is doubled if you live outside Europe. You can also bring in 2 liters of wine and 1 liter of alcohol over 22 proof, and 2 liters of wine 22 proof or under. In addition, you can bring in 60cc of perfume, a quarter liter of eau de toilette, 250cc of coffee, and 200 grams of tea. Visitors ages 15 and over can bring in other goods totaling 175€ ($228); for those under 15, the limit is 90€ ($117). Customs officials tend to be lenient about general merchandise as the limits are very low.

Citizens of E.U. countries can bring in any amount of goods as long as the goods are intended for their personal use and not for resale.
