The Aquitane region of France including Girondes & Landes has some of surfings best known breaks: Hossegor, La Gravière, Estagnots, Capbreton, Le Penon, Lacanau... are all names that have been embedded in our surf-vocabulary thanks to the surfing world tour events held here every year. We've all seen Kelly Slater and France's own Micky Picon, Patrick Beven, Fred Robin, Eric Rebiére and Tim Boal tuck into a perfect barrels along these shores. These are some of the worlds best beach breaks and can deliver very heavy, very hollow waves right alongside fun, mellow peaks.
This is the longest continous stretch of sandy beach in Europe. The immense amount of sand means sandbanks, loads of sandbanks! These are created and destroyed by the tides, storms and currents only to be replaced by another perfect bank. Each day offers a new possibility...

Aquitaine is the tubey beachbreak capital of Europe. Regular Surfing Word Pro events are held along the coast, notably at Biarritz, Hossegor and Lacanau. When these events are on around September-october it can be a bit of a circus out there, but head north of Hossegor and you'll find quieter more chilled spots.
The popular breaks get crowded when the surf is good, but there are literally dozens of uncrowded quality waves to be found if you're prepared to do a little walking. Actually many spots in and around Landes and Gironde can be empty even in early Autumn and you'll find plenty of empty peaks with your name on them.

WHO WILL IT APPEAL TO?
The quality and quantity of the waves, the pleasant climate, and excellent tourist facilities, good quality accommodation and great food make Aquitaine a suitable destination for all levels of surfers, all year round. Especially suitable for those surfers looking to enjoy Southern France's summer lifestyle.
Experienced surfers will find a wide range of challenging heavy and hollow waves from autumn through to spring when the swells are bigger and the waves super consistant.
People new to surfing and beginners will prefer the waves in summer the swell tends to be a bit smaller with fun surf available at the many beach breaks.
