SURFING TUITION

The Surfing teaching programme has been developed according to VDWS and IKO standards and guidelines. The lessons provide a proven step-by-step approach to learn surfing safely and quickly. The groups are not larger then three persons to an instructor and no more then 8 people provided with rental at any one one time. This means a larger the surfing pool allowing you the opportunity to choose the optimal board or kite for your level and for the wind conditions.

Kiteboarding taster COURSE

NEWBIES & BEGINNERS SURFING COURSE

The course is designed to give you a taste of surfing. if you enjoy it you can go on and complete the full beginner course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to surfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.

DURATION

6 Hours

GOAL

The aim of the surfing taster course is to give people a safe and fun introduction to surfing. The taster course covers the following topics:
• knowlegde of equipment
• starting/landing
• kite control
• bodydragging

FULL BEGINNER SURFING COURSE

NEWBIES & BEGINNERS SURFING COURSE

The course is designed to help you take your first steps into a new sport and hopefully fuel an addiction of a lifetime. You will receive all the theory and practice necessary to give you a thorough introduction to kiteboarding. You will go from being a beginner to an intermediate Surfer during this course.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to surfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.

DURATION

10 Hours

GOAL

The aim of the surfing beginners course is to give people a safe and fun introduction to surfing. At the end of the sessions you will have learned the fundamentals of kiting and depending on your ability and fitness you should be doing some basic water work. The course covers the following topics:
• knowlegde of equipment
• starting/landing
• kite control
• bodydragging
• waterstarting /riding.

INTERMEDIATE CLINIC OR REFRESHER COURSE

ADVANCED BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE SURFING COURSE

This 6 hour course is designed to help you achieve your next personal level and covers some of the trickier aspects of surfing that require professional coaching.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who have done some surfing in the past but need help going upwind, you are up-n-riding but are having some difficulty with direction, you want to be able to go out and return to the same spot... or simply those who have completed a beginner course and want to take the next step. You need to be able to re-launch a kite in deep water.

DURATION

6 Hours

GOAL

The aim here is to teach you how to go upwind, practise controlled riding and to show you how to go out and return to the same place.

ADVANCED SURFING CLINIC

After you are proficient in your basic skills, it's time to get some hang time!

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who already have basic surfing skills and who want to progress to their next personal level. You need to be able to go upwind and be able to go out and return to the same position.

GOAL

You will learning the advanced board and kite-handling skills necessary to safely use performance gear in high winds. You will also improve technique and learn jumps.

REFRESHER/SUPERVISION SURFING CLINIC

Proficient kiteboarder but this is your first time in Cabo Verde? This is for you.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who already have good surfing skills and who want some supervision, tips and tricks on surfing in Cape Verde.

GOAL

To give you a supervised introduction to the local surfing spots and equipment used for kiteboarding in Sal.

PRICE

£ 190 for 4 Hrs

Note: we also offer this package with 1 week Kiteboarding equipment rental thrown in, i.e. One week rental of all kiting equipment + 4 hours supervision and introduction to the spots with tips and tricks. Price: £ 190

PRIVATE SURFING LESSONS - INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

You and your surfing instructor will determine the lesson-content based on your current abilities and your personal surfing goals. Private surfing sessions can be booked per hour or per 2 hours, during which an expert coach will teach you how to have more fun out on the water.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

These lessons are aimed at those who already have basic surfing skills and who want to progress to the next level.

DURATION

1 or 2 Hours

KEY SKILLS

As mentioned above this depends on your current abilities and your personal sailing goals. However 1 on 1 lessons can cover anything and everything from relaunching the kite to Jumping, wave riding and handle passes.

GOAL

To help you to adjust to different situations and correct your mistakes. To help you attain your personal surfing goals and ultimately to have more fun out on the water.

The Cape Verde Surfing Academy is a recognized VDWS (Internationaler Schulverband für Wassersport) & IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) center. These surfing accreditations ensure that you are taught by qualified instructors using proven teaching techniques & that all the courses follow the latest safety guidelines for accredited schools.

SURFING INSTRUCTORS

The Surfing academy owner is a VDWS instructor and he has trained all the instructors here. The instructors have years of experience as Surfers & surf instructors and are accustomed to coaching at different levels. They have all the necessary skills & experience to help newbies & beginners to progress to a level where they can become independant Surfers. The instructors are multi-lingual & speak English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.

SURFING SAFETY

Your safety is our prime concern, the Cape Verde Surf Academy offer a low student-to-teacher ratio and the have a rescue vehicle (Zodiac) at their disposal at all times. The center has the latest safety systems as well as helmets and life vests.
