SURFING TUITION

The beginners surfing teaching programme has been developed according to the VDWS (International School Association for Watersports) standards and guidelines. The lessons provide a proven step-by-step approach to learn surfing safely and quickly. The surf school is a recognized VDWS center.

FULL BEGINNER COURSE

NEWBIES & BEGINNERS SURFING COURSE

The course is designed to help you take your first steps into a new sport and hopefully fuel an addiction of a lifetime. The training program is specifically developed to guarantee success in surfing and includes muscle specific exercises surfing different wave types and surfing in different conditions. This will help you develop confidence and improve your surfing.

The Surf Lessons and Surf Clinics have a low student to instructor ratio for safety and to ensure you get the attention you need on dry land and in the water. All participants are placed with an instructor who specializes in teaching at a particular level.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to surfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.

DURATION

6 Hours

GOAL

The aim of the surfing beginners course is to give people a safe and fun introduction to surfing. At the end of the sessions you will have learned the fundamentals of surfing and depending on your ability and fitness you should cover all of the following skills:
• Maneuvering the board
• Positioning and paddling
• Sitting on your board and turning techniques
• Duck diving techniques
• Paddling out
• Catching broken waves or white water
• Catching 'green waves' to shore
• Standing up on the surfboard
• Surfing safety and priority rules
Besides the practical aspects mentioned above you will also learn the theory you need to understand wave types, swell and wind conditions, currents & rips, the difference between reef, point and shore breaks, etc.

You will have 6 hours of surfing lessons and you decide how many hours per day. You also have 7 days surfing equipment rental for free surfing after your lessons.

COURSE LOCATION

The clinics and courses are held at various surf spots on the island depending on the swell, wind and wave conditions.

COMPLETED THE COURSE, I'M HOOKED, WHAT NOW?

SURFING EQUIPMENT RENTAL OR FURTHER TUITION

Once you've completed the beginner course you will be assessed and (depending on your ability) you could hire equipment and practise on your own or take some additional lessons to help you improve your surfing.

You could also at this point be at a level where you could take an Intermediate surfing course & take your surfing to the next level. The surf school is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm daily.

The Cape Verde Surf School is a recognized VDWS (Internationaler Schulverband für Wassersport) center. This accreditation ensures that you are taught by qualified instructors using proven teaching techniques & that all the courses follow the latest safety guidelines for accredited schools.

SURFING INSTRUCTORS

The Surf School owner is a VDWS instructor and he has trained all the instructors here. The instructors have years of experience as Surfers & surfing instructors and are accustomed to coaching at different levels. They have all the necessary skills & experience to help newbies & beginners to progress to a level where they can become independant Surfers. The instructors are multi-lingual & speak English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.

SURFING SAFETY

Your safety is our prime concern, the Cape Verde Surf School offer a low student-to-teacher ratio and the have a rescue vehicle (Zodiac) at their disposal at all times. The center has the latest safety systems.
