IMPORTANT: The surfing & kitesurfing course outlines below are aimed at beginners at both sports. However, we also offer surfing & kitesurfing combo packages for intermediate & advanced boardriders. Surfing & windsurfing combo packages are also available including combo equipment rental packages that can be designed around your ability. These can include mixed ability packages e.g.:

Beginner/Intermediate boardriders
• 5hr beginner windsurfing course
• 6hr intermediate surfing course
• 1 week windsurfing equipment rental + 1 week surfing equipment rental

Advanced and Experienced boardriders
• 4hr advanced kitesurfing clinic
• 1 week surfing equipment rental

SURFING & KITEsURFING TUITION

The beginners teaching programmes have been developed according to the VDWS (International School Association for Watersports) and IKO (International Kiteboarding organization) standards and guidelines. The lessons provide a proven step-by-step approach to learn surfing and kitesurfing safely and quickly.

SURFING FULL BEGINNER COURSE

NEWBIES & BEGINNERS SURFING COURSE

This course is designed to help you take your first steps into the 'sport of kings' and you will receive all the theory and practice necessary to get you up and riding your first wave to the shore. You will cover all the theory and practise.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to surfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.

DURATION

6 Hours (split over 2 or 3 days)

GOAL

The main aim of the Beginners Surf Course is get you up and riding waves in a safe and fun environment. The surf course at this level covers the following Surfing Essentials:
• Beach safety, currents/rip tides, Weather and Wave formation
• Equipment - How to handle it in the water
• Proning, stalling and accelerating board
• Paddling techniques
• Popup/stance refinement
• Catching broken waves
• Take-off (straight)
• Safe Wipe-out technique
• Turning right or left
• Paddling “outside”
• Position in line-up, wave selection, and timing
• Catching green waves and angled take-offs.
• Surfing etiquete
By the end of the course you should have experienced the rush of riding a green/broken wave safely to the shore.

KITESURFING FULL BEGINNER COURSE

NEWBIES & BEGINNERS SURFING COURSE

The course is designed to help you take your first steps into a new sport and hopefully fuel an addiction of a lifetime. You will receive all the theory and practice necessary to get you up and kiting on your own.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

This course is aimed at those who want an introduction to surfing and who have never tried it before. No Experience is required but you need to be able to swim 50 meters in open water.

DURATION

10 Hours (split over 3 or 4 days)

GOAL

You will learn to set up and launch a kite, kite control and kite flying. Once you are able to handle the kite you will be introduced to the board and by the end of the course you should be up on the board and practising direction.

COMBO EQUIPMENT RENTAL

SURFING, KITESURFING OR WINDSURFING

Various rental combinations are available including:
• 5 hours of Windsurf rental & 6 hours of Surf/bodyboard Rental
• 10 hours of Windsurf rental & 6 hours of Surf/bodyboard Rental
• 1 week Windsurf Rental & 10 hours of Surf/bodyboard rental
• 1 0r 2 weeks Kitesurf + Windsurf combination Rental (use of both sets of equipment) Note: the is only for people who are competant kite and windsurfers.

The Cape Verde Surfing, Windsurfing & Kitesurfing Academy is a recognized VDWS (Internationaler Schulverband für Wassersport) & IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) center. These accreditations ensure that you are taught by qualified instructors using proven teaching techniques & that all the courses follow the latest safety guidelines for accredited schools.

SURFING & KITESURFING INSTRUCTORS

The academy instructors are also VDWS trained, have years of experience as Surfing & Kitesurfing instructors and are accustomed to coaching at different levels. They have all the necessary skills & experience to help newbies & beginners to progress to a level where they can become independant surfers and kitesurfers. The instructors are multi-lingual & speak English, French, German, Italian and Portuguese.

WATERSPORTS SAFETY

Your safety is our prime concern, the Cape Verde Watersports Center offer a low student-to-teacher ratio and the have a rescue vehicle (Zodiac) at their disposal at all times. The center has the latest safety systems as well as helmets and life vests.
