SURFING HOLIDAYS IN THE RePUBLIC OF CAPE VERDE

SURFING IN SAL - CAPE VERDE (CABO VERDE) ISLANDS

You can surf all the year round in Sal and the water and air temperatures are balmy. The Cape Verde Surfing Academy is located south of Santa Maria about 50 meters from the water. The beach has sunbeds, umbrellas and fresh water showers. The nearby beachclub serves everything from drinks & snacks to complete meals.

The Bay of Santa Maria is a 5 km long sandy beach with an average water temprature of 24°C. This beach catches SW swells and summer NE swells and is usually small and mellow. The most consistent wave and swell months are from September to April (October - March being the prime months).

Ponta Preta is the best wave on the island and can hold swells of up to 8ft or 2.6m, that's a serious double overhead face! Ponta Preta is a 30 minute walk from Santa Maria and is a location made famous in the 90’s by 'Windsurf Trilogy' magazine’s series of articles describing a competition of the best waveriders in the world. Since then some of the best known waveriders, like Josh Angulo and Renaud Simhon have made Sal their home.

The best surfing season is from for intermediate to advanced Surfers is September to April. Beginners can learn to surf all year round. The air temperature is an average of 28C° & the water a balmy 24°C all year round.

We offer 'Learn to surf' holidays for newbies & beginners surfing clinics for intermediate surfers. We also have multi-adventure options combining Surfing, Kitesurfing and windsurfing and an option to fully customize your Cape Verde holiday. LEARN TO SURF

Newbies & Beginners: The Cape Verde surfing experience is a great way to immerse yourself in the surfing travel lifestyle and learn how to surf or perfect your surfing techniques. We offer Learn-to-surf courses in Santa Maria with Professional surfing tuition, backed by proven coaching techniques, to anybody who's got the passion to learn or improve their surfing.

Best season for beginners: Surfing can be learnt any time of the year. However, one of the best times to learn is in the summer months between May to September.

SURFING CLINICS (intermediate surfers)

Intermediate Surfers: The Sal surfing clinics are aimed at those who have surfed before or followed a beginner course at some time. This way you don't have to go through all the basics again. The focus of the clinic is on your individual surfing. Timely error correction and professional surf coaching will ensure that your surfing develops quickly and properly. instruction for intermediates covers such things as: paddling techniques, turning, types of waves and approach to apply to each of them, the Bottom turn, Duck diving, off the lip, the cutback etc.

Best season for intermediate to advanced Surfers: the winter months from September to April produce the most consistent swells while the best time for sheer swell size is October to March.

SURFING + KITESURFING OR WINDSURFING

Anybody & Everybody: This is a multi-adventure, multi-activity holiday where you get an introduction to both surfing and kitesurfing. Fully qualified surfing and surfing instructors will teach you the basics in a fun, relaxed and safe environment. This is an ideal option for those days when the swell has dropped off and the wind is blowing.

FULLY CUSTOMIZED MULTI-SPORTS ADVENTURES

Anybody & Everybody: This is a multi-adventure, multi-activity holiday where you call the shots. Put together your own active Cape Verde holiday and we can arrange anything from your accommodation, car hire and lessons to personal guides, equipment hire or even a spot of fishing ;-).
