Typical Day
The Surfaris in Gran Canaria will allow you to experience some of the best waves it has to offer. Gran Canaria is an excellent destination for surfers who are looking for their first introduction to surfing reef breaks. The access and conditions are not as difficult as on the Lanzarote or Fuerteventura. The swell, wind and weather conditions will determine the daily venue. Here's a rough idea of what to expect whilst on the Surfari in Gran Canaria:
Previous Night: Check out the local swell, wind and weather predictions
Following morning: Rub the sleep from your eyes and squint at the already bright sun, fuel up with a quick breakfast and get ready to search for your perfect wave.
Meet your local surf guide, discuss the options, throw the boards and suits in the van and get on the open road to the chosen best spot of the day.
Adrenalin sends a jolt to your stomach (glad you didn't go for the left over pizza at breakfast) as you see lines of swell stacked to the horizon. Out of the van and into your suit, watching the sets peel in and crash on the reef.
Warm-up, plenty of stretching and wax your board.
Discuss entry and exit points, and channels/rips.
Paddle out to the peak with your new found surf buddy.
The rest is a chapter in your personal surfing history.
That Evening: Bore the pants off the rest of the crew in the surf house with tales of back-dooring the Canarian equivalent of Pipeleine and becoming the next Surfing legend!
On the other hand you could be complaining about surfing onshore slop while picking sea urchin spines out of your feet. Shit happens, but it's days like these that help fuel your addiction....
