THE SURF
The most unique geographical characteristic of the island is
its round shape.
This provides travelling
surfers with a
choice of coasts
that will work
under a variety
of wind/swell conditions.
From Novemebr to February powerful north atlantic ground swells
unleash their power
on the many world-class
reefs and beaches
located between
the capital of
Las Palmas in the
North West to Galdar
in the North East.
The capital of
Las Palmas has
the largest surf
population on the
island, has lot’s of
surf shops and
is home one of
the most INFAMOUS
waves in the Canary
Islands - El Confital.
The west coast is rumoured to have some epic waves and if
you spend some
time exploring
the island you
will score some
good quality un-crowded
waves.
The southern coast offers a complete contrast to the north and mainly comprises of mellow beach breaks.

THE SURF EXPERIENCE
The 'Gran
Canaria Surf
Experience' is
located on the
southern tip of the
island and the Surf
Lessons take place where the best waves of the day are
located in the
South. The most
commonly visited
beaches are Playa
del Ingles, San
Agustín and El
Faro de Maspalomas The surf programme has been developed
from the BSA
course structure
and the instructors
are qualified
lifeguards ensuring
you learn and
progress in a
safe and fun
environment.
Gran Canaria is also a great place for intermediate surfers
to take their surfing
to the next level.
We have put together
a special Surf
Clinic Programme aimed people who are already catching green
waves and who would
like to work on
specific techniques
and experience
surfing a wider
range of less intimidating
waves with easy
access.
There are 2 choices of Accommodation available
in Bahia Feliz
or Maspalomas also located on the southern tip of the island.
In Maspalomas you can stay in a small and friendly apartment complex with beautiful landscaped grounds. It’s a low-rise development with spacious well laid out accommodation. It benefits from being close to the resort of Playa del Ingles.
In Bahia Feliz you can stay in a small apartment complex located in a quiet neighbourhood of Bahia Feliz. The accommodation is located right on the beach, and the surrounding area is relatively untouched by mass tourism.

WHO WILL IT APPEAL TO?
The diversity of the waves, the climate, tourist infrastructure and short flights times from most European cities makes Gran Canaria a suitable destination for all levels of surfers.
Experienced surfers will find everything they need on the north coast, but those looking for less crowded spots might prefer Lanzarote or Fuerteventura.
The south cost however receives more protection from the dominant swells, the waves tend to be smaller, mellower and they typically break over sandy bottoms. These factors combine to make it an ideal location for people wanting to learn how to surf or beginners with a few lessons under their belts.
