WHY TAKE SURFING LESSONS?
The main obstacle to quickly learning how to surf consists in the extremely short time surfers actually spend upright on their surf boards. The time-ratio between pure surfing and paddling/waiting for a beginner surfer trying to catch real waves in the outside, hardly gets close to 1% of the time spent in the water. This is why in reality there's almost no time to practice...
Surfing involves plenty of complex techniques. Most of the body movements applied in our sport are completely strange to a 'normal' human body used to walking on firm underground rather than on water. This refers specially to paddling and the referring muscles, but also to standing up on a gliding board, and turning. Consequently beginners (especially adult beginners) generally quickly develop wrong body movements while trying to learn how to surf auto didactically. These wrong techniques in most cases over time develop into serious impediments to any further technical improvements. So these surfers just miss the best part of surfing: long rides, speed and turning.

THE COURSES
The lesson/course prices include:

Full surf course - 5 days
If you are in Fuerteventura for a week or longer and really want to get to grips with surfing then there is no better way than doing a full 5 day course. Surfing is progressive - the more you surf the more you learn, if you really want to learn to surf and become an independant surfer you should take as many lessons as possible. The 5 day (or longer) courses for both Beginners and Intermediates give the surf instructors a chance to give you more personalised tuition and to help with the development of your own personal style.
Initiation course - 3 days
The aim is to have you standing after 3 days! In these 3 days you will learn how to stand up and primary water safety. You will spend 3-4 hours in the water everyday learning board control, paddling and wipe out survival etc. You will also be given theory lessons on types of breaks, surf board design, equipment, history, water survival and safety.
Recap/improver course - 3 days
To join this course you need to already be able to stand up. The aim of this intermediate level course is to have you catch and ride 'green' waves. You will be given specialised instruction on technique and skills according to your ability. You will spend 3-4 hours per day in the water and this will allow our instructors to correct any mistakes and work through problems that you may be having. You will also receive theory on reading the conditions, understanding swell as well as helpful hints.
Taster course - 1 day
Spend a day with learning elementary water safety and how to stand up on a surf board. The aim of the taster course is to give you an introduction to surfing after which you can decide whether or not you want to continue learning. The course will consist of a 4 hour session involving safety, paddling and standing techniques.

For surfers just wanting to hire gear, the Surf School has Bic (epoxy) boards for rental, these range from 7’3” to 8'4''. Wetsuits are included in the rental price and there are a complete range of sizes.
