SOUTH AFRICAN ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For the vast majority of foreign nationals travelling to South Africa on holiday, entry is straightforward and hassle-free.

PASSPORTS

A valid passport is required by all visitors and must be valid for 6 months after proposed departure. Some visitors may also require a visa.

VISAS

Currently visas are issued on arrival for business or tourist purposes for nationals of EU member countries; Commonwealth countries or nationals of Australia; Canada; Japan; Liechtenstein; Norway; Switzerland; USA; and New Zealand.

Visas for visits of up to 90 days are obtainable by nationals of Argentia; Brazil; Chile; Ecuador; Israel; Malta; Paraguay; St. Helena; Urugay and Venezula. It may be possible for Nationals of other states to obtain a visa on arrival but you are advised to check with your embassy or consulate well before your travel dates

Upon arrival in South Africa travellers from the countries mentioned above will be given a free entry permit sticker that outlines how long they may stay in the country. This is usually a maximum of 90 days, though the immigration officer may tailor the time according to the airline tickets held.

Foreign nationals not mentioned above are usually issurd a visa for 30 days. If you want to stay for a longer period, you will need to make a formal visa application, as opposed to relying on the automatic entry permit. (Allow at least ten weeks to process a visa if required in advance.)
