THE SPOTS
The coast of the KwaZulu-Natal is a kitesurfer's paradise. There are kitesurf spots everywhere and the north and south coasts offer plenty of uncrowded spots. Durban's main kitesurfing venue is, the aptly named. Kitebeach, located about 3 km from the city center. The location offers good consistent surf year round and good wave riding conditions. The beach is wide enough even at high tide to have plenty of space for launching and landing on the beach.
The water temperature is warm all year round, so the most you are going to need is a spring suit. On hot days in summer and winter you will be quite comfortable kitesurfing in boardshorts.
WHY KWAZULU-NATAL?
One of the big attractions of kitesurfing in the Kingdom of the Zulu is uncrowded north and south coast beaches, the warm water and year round sunshine. The wind is very consistent from September through to March and there are great wave riding spots available.
The roads are excellent along most of the coast, so access to the water is easy. However the coast from northern Zululand right up to the Mozambique border is wild with few access points. Large sections of the Zululand coast are protected marine reserves. There are kitable spots everywhere, most of which have never been kitesurfed (be careful though always check with your guide before heading out) KwaZulu-Natal is THE place for a kitesurfing adventure.
