Sweet, SO WHERE CAN I KITESURF IN PORTUGAL?

At the moment we offer kitesurfing holidays in the Algarve region of Portugal. The Lessons and clinics take place on the beach at Praia de Alvor and the Ria de Alvor lagoon. We will soon be offering kitesurfing holidays along the entire length of the Portuguese coast from Viana-Cabedelo in the north to Guincho in central Portugal, to Sagres in the south. Watch this space for new destinations in the near future.

KITESURFING HOLIDAYS IN PORTUGAL

Portugal is the most reliable wind destinations on the southern European coastline. Obviously, Atlantic storms deliver great wind conditions in winter, but Portugal is blessed with that something special: Wind in the summertime too!

The Portuguese summer winds are called the 'Nortada' and are a result of three contributing factors. The 'Azores High' whose edge provides a light north to north-westerly airstream along the Portuguese coast. This is compounded by the heat low over the Iberian Peninsula (thanks to intensive sunshine, another standard summer phenomenon). When both systems coincide they work hand-in-hand turning a light breeze into a strong wind that blows parallel to the shore. And finally at various spots along the coast the local topography cooperates to create acceleration zones or 'wind funnels' further increasing wind speeds.

Good wind, great weather, plenty of sun... What more could you want from a kiteboarding holiday?
