Lagos (PRAIA DE ALVOR) - Beginner kiteboarding course
The kiteboarding teaching programme has been developed according to the IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) standards and guidelines. The lessons provide a proven step-by-step approach to learn Kiteboarding safely and quickly. This means you are guaranteed professional tuition with particular attention paid to your safety. As a recognised IKO Center we can issue the IKO Kiteboarder card which means your progress can be tracked and your tuition can be furthered at any recognised IKO center.
The Full Beginner course
20 hour course, usually 5 sessions of 4 hours. The best way to discover kiteboarding! The aim of this course is to turn you into knowledable, self-sufficient and safe kiteboarder. By the end of this course, you should be ready to strike out on your own safely with your own, or rented, equipment! The first part of this program will take you through the steps of piloting a 2 or 4 lines kite, and body dragging in the water. You will also learn about safety and how important it is to the sport & you will be taken through the steps of equipment set up and launching and landing.
1st session: 4 hours
• Introduction to kites with a look at different types and sizes
•
Elementary rules of security
•
Specific vocabulary for kitesurfing
•
Rigging up 2 line kite (inflation, connecting lines,…)
•
Launching and landing from the beach
•
Basic flying movement.
•
Security system and how to use it
•
First Powerkite experience
2nd session: 4 hours
•
Rigging up (inflation, connecting lines,…)
•
Piloting the kite from side to side into the flight window
• Bodydrag downwind
•
Relaunching the kite from water
•
The Beachstart
•
Bodydrag with harness hooked one hand.
•
Relaunching the kite from water on both side.
•
Self rescue
3rd session: 4 hours
•
Rig and pilot a 4 line kite alone!
• Bodydragging upwind to recover your board
•
Waterstart and first rides
Then it's time to take it up a notch. Once you are able to demonstrate the body drag, basic waterstart and you've had your first few rides, you'll move on to the second phase of your course. The aim here is to teach you how to go upwind, practise controlled riding and maybe your first jumps.
4th session: 4 hours
• Waterstart and riding in different conditions
• Ride across the wind, going out and returning to the beach
• Work on edging, body position & pressure transfer (leaning to control direction)
• Ride with speed + controlling direction
• Go out and return to the same spot
5th session: 4 hours
• Controlled riding
• First ride upwind
• Practice and perfect upwind riding
• First jumps and jibes
Please note that kiteboarding is progressive and depending upon your ability/aptitude to learn, stamina and weather/wind conditions you may cover some but not all of topics outlined above during this beginner course. If you are the only student on the course and receiving 1-on-1 coaching, thenyou will be learning a lot faster so the course time will be reduced by a ¼ (3h instead of 4h per session).
