THE WIND

La Graciosa located close to the North African coast and the Sahara desert, is on the fringe of the trade winds and in the middle of a major ocean current the Canary current.

The predominant winds are the NE trade winds that blow throughout the year. In the summer they become more consistent and stronger and the sea breezes create a pleasant climate both on the water and on shore. The trade winds ‘Los Alisios’ can kick in as early as March and as late as May. The best time for advanced or Pro kite surfers to visit the island is between May and August.

The position of the islands creates acceleration zones where the wind is funnelled between the ‘Los Riscos’ mountain range of Lanzarote and the island of La Graciosa. Theses winds can sometimes increase to as much as 8-9 Bft! and are normally cross-shore or cross-on.

The Canary Islands occasionally get hit by the hot dry ‘Sirocco’ winds that blow straight off the Sahara desert. They normally last between from 2-10 days and provide variable conditions (light-strong). Advanced riders will find a wide range of challenging wave riding spots around the island.

THE LA GRACIOSA KITE SURFING EXPERIENCE

The 'La Graciosa Kite Surfing Experience' is loacted in the sleepy fishing village of Caleta del Sebo. This really is a village and island where time has stood still: no cars, no tarmac roads, no hotels, no package holiday tourists, no noise, no crowds, no pollution and no stress just deserted sandy beaches, clear warm waters and constant cross shore winds. Discover the lost world of La Graciosa where wheelbarrows and bare feet are in Vogue ;-)
La Graciosa is the perfect destination for kite surfers with a spirit of adventure.

La Graciosa is home to only a handful of kite surfers (your hosts) the scene is in its infancy just like the sport. The locals are friendly and the vibe is good. The IKO accredited and Kite Surfing Academy is owned and run by 2 freeriders who, when they started kiting on the island were considered madmen by the local fishermen. These guys eat, sleep and breathe kite surfing. Everytime we go over there we are get all fired up about kiting and are always sorry to leave the island, the great home cooked meals and the animated company of our hosts. With the local knowledge and IKO proven techniques you can either learn to kite surf or take your kiting to the next level on La Graciosa. The kite surfing instructors are IKO Level 2 qualified and the center has a wide range of kite surfing equipment from leading kite surfing manufacturers and water rescue vehicles at it's displosal.

The Accommodation is based on self catering apartments. All apartments are a short walking distance to the kite surfing Center, local amenities, bars, restaurants etc. and most have sea or harbour views.
