Never heard of La Graciosa? It's not suprising! It's a remote and unspoilt volcanic island located to the north of Lanzarote and accessible only by boat. No cars, no package holidays, just an island of natural beauty with a small population of fishermen. Kitesurfing in La Graciosa is an adventure trip, that you won't find anywhere else in the world!

Kitesurfing Camps can be arranged for small groups, families, friends or if you prefer to travel alone you can join an existing group and share your kitesurfing dreams with people from around the world. People wanting to accompany a friend or partner but not participate in the kitesurfing course are also welcome.

The camps run all year round and the courses are also run on a continual basis with groups of not more than 6 people per course. However, the best months for kitesurfing are March to November. This is when the sea tends to be flat and the wind consistent. During the winter months the sea can become too choppy and although the wind might be good on the occasional day it cannot be guaranteed.

AIM OF THE KITE SURFING CAMP

The aim of the kite surfing camp is to give people a safe and fun introduction to kite surfing. At the end of the sessions you will have learned the fundamentals of kite surfing and depending on your ability and fitness you should be doing some water work. The Kiteboarding Academy in La Graciosa is located in Caleta de Sebo and all Kite surfing sessions take place on the beaches of La Graciosa or in the 'Rio' between the islands of lanzarote and La Graciosa.

Typical Kiteboarding Session

Here's a quick overview of what to expect from yor first Kite Session.

Previous Day: Check weather/wind prediction for next day. Arrange time to meet at kite surfing academy next day.

Typical Session: Meet at kite surf center, prepare and load kite equipment into the zodiac. Head off out of the harbour and into the straits.

After locating the best beach for the wind and ability of the group, Off-load kites and other equipment. Learn how to set-up the kite equipment, detremine wind direction and learn about the wind window and how kite reaction. A quick 'pre-flight' check and then the exhilaration of launching and landing the kite by yourself. Feel the power and adrenalin kick in! Learn how to pilot the kite in the power zone, rigging and adjusting a 4 line kite and piloting with a harness.

End of session: Recap on what you have learned, all help pack up the equipment and the head off back to the kite center. Hopefully by this point you will be flipping out totally hooked on kite surfing and can't wait for the next session! Back to your accommodation and a hot shower to ease those aches and pains from a hard days kiting.

Drink a few beers with the other kite surfing 'campers' at the little Tapas bar over-looking the harbour, watch the fishermen coming in with their nets and boats full of fish. Later amble over to the Kite Surfing Center to enjoy a fantastic seafood dinner prepared by your Hosts, watch a few videos, discuss the days kite surfing and generally chill with your new friends.
