KITE SURFING HAZARDS LA GRACIOSA

THE WAVES

La Graciosa is great for advanced kite surfers wanting to head into the waves, but many spots on the island are dangerous for kite surfing, there are rips, currents and hidden rocks. There are a few places we can suggest without putting yourself in danger. please see our Guide to La Graciosa's Kite surfing Spots. We don't recommend kiting anywhere else.
For beginners to intermediate kite surfers we recommend you join a Kite Surfing Camp or Clinic with professional IKO instructors who can safely get you up and riding.

THE SUN

The sun on La Graciosa will burn you to a crisp in a couple of hours, this is a fact. The sun here is harsher than in the rest of Europe, basically you're just across the water from the Sahara Desert! So take proper precautions when going out in the sun especially when you are in the water. Remember there are no trees or buildings offering instant shade on La graciosa.

5 basic things to remember:
1. Whenever possible wear a hat/baseball cap.
2. Sun block/sunscreen are essential, get a SPF 45 for your face and arms.
3. Find some shade during the middle of the day (Siesta)
4. Wear polarized sun glasses.
5. Try and 'cover up' when not in the water.
