Whatever happend to surfing's 'Aloha' spirit? We seem to have forgotten that we are all part of the same global surfing tribe. Race, culture, creed... it's all irrelevant in the water. That perfect moment inside the green room or the very first time you ride a wave to shore, that's what really defines who we are.
What's the feeling out there? Surfing used to be practiced by everyone men, women, children and even by the ancient kings of Polynesia. It was purely recreational, the emphasis was always on fun and enjoyment, on sharing the joy of surfing with everyone. Today surfing is a billion dollar industry and while surfing hasn't changed, surfers certainly have.
We need to chill, relax, enjoy the waves as well as the company, give newbies a break, encourage that struggling surfer to take the drop, hoot when someone takes off steep-n-deep, have some fun, laugh out loud... The Lowdown
Ponta Preta is a location made famous in the 90’s by 'Windsurf Trilogy' magazine’s series of articles describing a competition of the best waveriders in the world in Ponta Preta. Since then some of the best known waveriders, like Josh Angulo and Renaud Simhon have made Sal their home.
The Cape Verde Windsurf Center, in the island of Sal, is located south of Santa Maria about 50 meters from the water. The Bay of Santa Maria is a 5 km long sandy beach with no rocks or sharp objects. The wind blows slightly offshore at the beginning of the bay and becomes slightly onshore at the end. The water temprature is an average 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the sandy bottom offers a very safe location for all levels from beginner to experts.
who's it for
The best wind season is from November to June but you can windsurf all year round as the trade winds, blow nearly the whole year. Winter/Spring has more intense winds with an an average of 18/24 knots and is Good for intermediate to advanced windsurfers. Also for windsurfers looking for a little wave riding action.
In the summertime (July - October) the wind speeds average 13/15 knots, making this a good season for beginners. The air temperature is an average of 28C° & the water a balmy 24°C all year round.

that Alacati in Turkey will be the next windsurfing/kitesurfing destination to look out for. I won't confirm or deny anything at this point but perhaps there will be a Zoco Xmas Turkey this year...
